Winter Holiday Mess

Murf and her minions are preparing for the Winter Holidays with a mess of holiday favorites, old and new. Be sure to tune in each week to hear what new and exciting music we have found, as well as keep up to date on some of the Pagan news, both local and world wide. You can catch us live on the radio at 89.3 FM in Lincoln, Ne, on Time Warner Cable channel 10 in Lincoln and surrounding areas, and on the web at KZUM's web site with streaming audio. You can also catch our recent shows on our MySpace page (due to FCC regulations we are only able to provide the show as a video stream (non-download) for a period not to exceed 14 days from original post date).

We sincerely apologize to our online listeners that the show was not available for streaming this morning. We were informed by the host of Glorious Gospel that one of their listeners had called, but he was not sure who to call. Emails and phone calls were made over the course of the show and we hope to have gotten the problem fixed. Unfortunately it did not happen during our broadcast.

But, we were able to actually record the show this morning. We had been having equipment issues for the last couple of weeks, but those have been taken care for the nonce. You will be able to catch today's show on the MySpace page.

And now on to the show:
As it is Yule season, we have been playing a selection of holiday music, both vocal and instrumental. We are ALWAYS open to requests, so if there is a new age or Pagan holiday song you would like to hear, please drop me a comment or send me an email and I will do my best to get it on the air for you.

Once again we had a nice selection of newer releases to play from today, as well as many of our old favorites.

I have been working very long and odd hours the last several weeks and am feeling it. But I will be doing what I can to make sure that you get your play lists ASAP. In the meantime, do not forget to visit our MySpace page to catch some previous shows in video format. Who knows, one day we may get the chance to piece together some stills of Murf and her minions, as well as photos of some of the artists that we frequently play and put them all together into a video for you! Oi, I can hear Murf cursing me for that idea already....

Tune in next week and we will be entertaining you with even more seasonal songs. Among other offerings, we have Leigh Anne Hussey's Homebrewed Carols and Loreena McKennitt's holiday albums. Hope to catch you all next Sunday!

Blessed Be and I will be back on the show as soon as possible - my appearances are going to be hit and miss for a while.

Greetings and well met, my friends! Thank you for being so patient with me. I am attempting to get caught up on my blogging for the Mess and for Pagan-Musings. I know I am VERY far behind on PM, but at least the Mess is going to be easy to get caught up on. :)

Sunday was a wonderful show, as always! We had another visit from the Polka Goddess (Thursday mornings at 10am CST) and she suppliedus with some rather interesting animal polka music to fit with week two of our Animal song marathon.

Be sure to tune in weekly at 9am CST on Sundays to catch Murphy's Magic Mess. Murph is there EVERY week and Damon most every week. For a little while I will be sporadic in my attendance. I have gotten a new job and we are still working out the details of my availability. Looks like I will be at the station only once a month for a little while, but I am going to keep up on these postings as long as Damon remembers to send me the set lists every week! Unfortunately, work does not allow us to listen to the radio, so those Sundays that I am not at the studio I do not get to listen to the show.

But, I will be there this Sunday as we start our decent into the Dark of the Year. Listen for songs by Marc Gunn off his happy Songs of Death CD (released August 2009) as well as more from the Epic of Gilgamesh and other interesting takes on Death and Dying.

We should also have a special guest coming this weekend, Dale Bacon will be gracing us with his presence and we will talk about the Ghosts of Lincoln tour that he conducts each year, as well as other aspects of his interesting and unique story telling style. I am definitely looking forward to it and I hope you are as well.

Pax Musica!

Next week is Murf's birthday. She'll be playing several of her favorites and relaxing in the glow of her admiring fans and listeners. You can help her celebrate by leaving a comment on this blog wishing her a happy birthday! We've already had one listener do so even before this post was written!

Remember, you can make requests for songs or dedications by leaving comments to this blog as well. Please understand that it may take two shows before you request is played. Murf and Hyenas do not bring ALL of their music with them, but we will do our best to meet your request as quickly as possible.

You can also catch news and information regarding the Mess on our MySpace page. As soon as we get some technical glitches resolved, you may even be able to FINALLY listen to the Mess at other times. We can post the show as a "video" to the MySpace page for up to two weeks at a time. We've been trying to do that for most of the summer and keep hitting some kind of snafu with the hardware, but with the help of KZUM's staff, we think we may have solved that problem. We will let you know in a future post to the blog if and when that is taken care of.

Thank you for listening and showing your support for Murphy's Magic Mess and KZUM!
-Murf, Damon (aka Shanzi, Sir Fluffy Bunny), Eddie (aka Ed the Hyena), and Phil (aka Bonzai, Rev. Moonbeam)

The Hyenas Take Over, Murphy's Magic Mess, Sunday, August 16, 2009

Greetings and well met, our friends and listeners! If you were listening to the show this morning then you heard that the Hyenas had taken over. Shanzi (Damon), Bonzai (Phil), and Ed (Eddie) were driving Murf completely bonkers almost from the start. And oddly enough, Bonzai was the one with the best Hyena laugh. Helps that Hyena is one of my totem animals. /smiles big/

Between all the laughter, merry making, and headache giving, the Hyenas were able to help Murf put on another wonderful show! I believe that Eddie may be joining us from to time so he can begin to learn the ropes for when he and Damon branch out and do another show. So, be prepared for some rather entertaining, yet annoying, antics from the Three Stooges....I mean the Hyenas in shows to come.

Once in Time, Murphy's Magic Mess 08/09/09

Well, folks, it would seem that not only was not present the show, but my brain took a vacation and I didn't get around to doing anything with the play list until today. Almost entire week AFTER the show aired. And, it would look as if Damon's having some technical difficulties of his own getting the show recorded so he can post it to the show's MySpace page. Terribly disappointing. I shall see what I can do to assist him with that for tomorrow's show.

So, here is the play list. Remember, Murf's theme song for the show is Wytches Chant 98 by Inkubus Sukkubus. It is not listed here as this is the play list as it was sent to me by Damon:

1. Once in Time by Christopher Boscole from Presence of Angels.
2. Hoedown Jig by Christopher Boscole from Presence of Angels.
3. Present Being by Christopher Boscole from Presence of Angels.
4. Unknown - Sorry, there was a bit of confusion! :)
5. Acient Forest by Acoustic Ocean from Light Returning.
6. Nantucket by Kori Linae Carothers from Trillian.
7. Magic Garden by Marc Enfroy from Awakening
8. In a stone circle by Ian Anderson from 12 Dances with God
9. Ganesha Mantra by Larisha Stow & the Shakti Tribe from Reaching In
10. Ganesha Mantra II by Larisha Stow & the Shakti Tribe from Reaching In
11. Stolen Child by Loreena McKennitt from Night from the Alhambra
12. The Bonny Swans by Loreena McKennitt from Night from the Alhambra
13. Ordinary Day by J.P. Jones from Salvation Street
14. Blood of Eden by Peter Gabriel
15. Dragons by Anne Lister from Spreading Wings
16. Old Time Religion by Peter Seger from Peter Seger's Sing Along CD
17. Online Religion by Tom Smith from Plugged.
18. Pray your Gods by Toad the Wet Sprocket.
19. Penquin Lust by Annwn.
20. Superman Sex Life Boogie by Tom Smith from Plugged.
21. The Gate by Enigma from The Screen Behind the Mirror.
22. Push the Limits from The Screen Behind the Mirror.
23. GURU - Didn't catch it - will check with Murphy
24. God is Alive, Magick is Afoot by Buffy Saint-Marie from Unknown.

I'm not going to try to go into any show notes, as I was not there for it. But I will do my best to make up for it with tomorrow's show. Remember, tune in to listen to us at 89.3 on the FM dial in Lincoln, NE or Time Warner Cable's channel 10 in Lincoln. If you are one of our MANY online listeners, go to KZUM and click on the streaming audio. But you know that already. :D The show is EVERY Sunday at 9am CST.

Gods bless and keep your ears AND eyes on the traffic as you listen to KZUM, Lincoln's own Community Radio Station.

Pagan-Musings: Techno Pagan

Techno Pagan on Pagan-Musings

The August 8th episode of Pagan-Musings on Blog Talk Radio was about Techno Pagans and what they do. We had a blast looking back to the early days of the internet and had a visit with besom, a friend who shared many (unfortunately broken) links from her days with AOL's Pagan chat rooms. With some wonderful chat room contributions and a chat visit from our Tradition's founding High Priestess, it was a very fun show and we are looking forward to many more!

A little different, but still keeping with the general theme as it is put forth by Murf. It would seem to that I a getting better at this kind of thing. :)

It was quite humorous to watch Murf AND Damon scribbling down my play list. Murf so that she can add it to the playlist archive on the website and Damon so he can use it for the MySpace page. Woot!
