Happy June, everyone! Wow! This year is flying by fast. Almost half way through the year and where has all the time gone? We at Murphy's Magic Mess have been bouncing around trying to get somewhat organized with what we are doing. We have lost Lily to the great white north, um, to Omaha; Damon has returned from the late shift (Thunder on the Plains) and I have been steadily with the show for some time now. We have tried a few new things and are looking to try some more. Eventually we will settle on something and then it will be time to change it all up again. We are the mess, after all!

For those of you who were listening this morning, I am sure you noted that I was on and I could hear! Still kinda quiet, but I wanted to make sure that I was actually able to catch everything. Murf and Damon are great and put up with me again.

Next Sunday is the Earth*Spirit Celebration hosted by Here and Back Again in Lincoln. The event is at Catering on the Boulevard.

Our own Murf is going to be story telling at this event. And I am running the Pangaia Metaphysical Store with my friend and business partner Sarah. We hope to see you all there.

I do not have a whole lot to say about today's show, other than it was a lot of fun! So stay tuned for next week. We'll go into a lot more detail.

Well, all, it was a wonderful show, again. If I may toot my own horn, that is. You see, Murf asked me to help put the show together for Sunday. It was a blast. Hardly even got close to playing half of what I had picked out, but it is May and we have four more shows to go. ;)

The morning started out for me, Sarah was visiting from Cozad and we got up with plenty of time to spare before the show.... or so we thought. It was the Lincoln Marathon. I live right off of 10th Street and the radio station is located on the top floor of the Terminal Building, which is also on 10th. Guess what, the Marathon route went from before my apartment to past the studio. Needless to say, we had fun getting there. Good thing I suggested we leave early. We managed to find a parking space only a block away from the station. Now, Murf, being more experienced, left early enough to take an alternate route to the station and had few problems getting there. She was just arriving at the sound booth as Sarah and I got upstairs. Thank you, Damon, for waiting in the parking lot for us! You are a Goddess send!

Once we arrived and got settled in, Murf started off the show with the back up disk she made just in case I wasn't able to arrive on time. Heh. Good thing, too. She had some wonderful new stuff courtesy of a music promoter, and it was BEAUTIFUL. I have received comments in email from one of my listeners in Colorado. Blessed be, Lauralee!

The Pocket Pirate, a.k.a. Damon, was with us once again. I am so pleased to have him back on the show. He brings an interesting take on things. I sometimes am too serious and he makes us all laugh. Seems I have turned into the Straight Man on the show, and that is just ironic if you know me at all. :) I am good for being the butt of jokes, but I also like to share some good ones.

Sarah's visit to the show was great. She was there for moral support during my first solo-esque stint behind the boards. And that was her voice you heard a lot during the second half of the show. She did our Quotes and helped with the announcements. She is also helping me to find some fun and interesting music to maybe play in the future. One of her suggestions is Enter the Haggis, a Celtic rock group out of Canada. You can find them at www.enterthehaggis.com, where you can listen to streams of all four of their albums thus far and even purchase their music. At some point I am sure you will get to hear some of their music on the show. We are pondering doing themed shows once a month to help share some of the great stuff we have found that doesn't always fit into the normal genre of Pagan music.

Heya, all! Glad to see you all listening. It was another fun Sunday morning at the Mess! I was going without sleep, which happens from time to time with me. So I was a bit goofy. I'm usually pretty good at playing the straight man to Murf (and now the Pocket Pirate/Damon), but today I was just plain silly. And of course in all the confusion of my lack of sleep, dead air time (we forgot to turn the gain back on for the microphones around 10:15), and an over load of sugar and caffeine, we forgot to do the TidBits and Quotes and the Calendar for the week. My deepest apologies.

So, what kind of fun did we have today? Hmmmm.... Well, we listened to a piece from the original movie soundtrack fro the Wicker Man, of course it was the original movie. The remake, as we all agreed this morning, is not all that good. Nice try, but the original is just so much better. The "Maypole Song" is a bit of Pagan ritual, actually. As it was depicted in the movie with Christopher Lee and Edward Woodard, the "Maypole Song" was done with a group of children and teenagers doing the Maypole dance. The song itself is an account of the cycle of life, from birth through death and into birth again. Very lovely visual if you listen to it while in a trance or meditative state.

First Day of the Festival of Cerealia: Roman holy day. The Festival of Cerealia was a seven day festival in honor of the Goddess Ceres. The exact date of the festival is uncertain, but most likely occurred from April 12 to April 19. Other possible start dates include the Ides of April (April 13) andApril 7. Note that the Romans used a lunar calendar. This date is a generalized date for the modern calendar. This Roman holy day may be on a different day if calculated using the ancient Roman lunar calendar.
In the city of Rome, Cerealia was the primary festival for Ceres. In Rome the festival was accompanied by the Ludi Ceriales, or the “Games of Cere”, which were held int he Circus Maximus. Ovid wrote in Fasti iv. 494 that Roman women clothed in white ran about the city with lighted torches to represent Ceres’ (Demeter’s) search for her daughter Proserpina (Persephone). The modern English word “cereal” comes from the name of the Roman Goddess Ceres.

Now, back to some of the excitement this morning. Mwahaha! I gave Murf a CD of music that was given to me by one of my PaganSpace.net friends. Pagan heavy metal, let's hope she approves some or all of it for playing on the show. Windcaller spent some time assembling that for me and I don't want it to go to waste.

When Murf let me run the boards I got pick some of the music. So I played Sacred Ceremony off of Gerald Jay Markoe's Meditation Music of Ancient Egypt. As we go I will be picking more and more of the music. I have started putting together collections for the Sabbats and will be bringing them with me.

Greetings and well met, my friends! Thank you again for listening to Murphy's Magic Mess on KZUM 89.3, Lincoln's Community Radio.

Today was a fun day at the studio. After I did the "standing in the cold pagan peepee dance" I was able to join Murf upstairs and help her with another wonderful show! It is my own fault for not getting there on time. I have really got to work on getting up early enough to meet Murf downstairs. A big thanks to our friends with the Gospel show for letting me in as they left. And we dearly hope that our friend with that show gets well very soon!

We listened to some wonderful music, everything from nice and relaxing meditation style music to some Ray Stevens with the Baptist Squirrel. That was a hoot!

We didn't get a chance to do our weekly announcements, so here we go:
Saturday the 11th is the Mysteries of Wicca class at Here & Back Again, presented by the Order of the Red Grail, Church for Transformational Wicca at 2pm. This weeks class is on herbs. There is a $5 free will donation request to cover use of the space and other expenses related to the class.
