Winter Holiday Mess

Murf and her minions are preparing for the Winter Holidays with a mess of holiday favorites, old and new. Be sure to tune in each week to hear what new and exciting music we have found, as well as keep up to date on some of the Pagan news, both local and world wide. You can catch us live on the radio at 89.3 FM in Lincoln, Ne, on Time Warner Cable channel 10 in Lincoln and surrounding areas, and on the web at KZUM's web site with streaming audio. You can also catch our recent shows on our MySpace page (due to FCC regulations we are only able to provide the show as a video stream (non-download) for a period not to exceed 14 days from original post date).

We sincerely apologize to our online listeners that the show was not available for streaming this morning. We were informed by the host of Glorious Gospel that one of their listeners had called, but he was not sure who to call. Emails and phone calls were made over the course of the show and we hope to have gotten the problem fixed. Unfortunately it did not happen during our broadcast.

But, we were able to actually record the show this morning. We had been having equipment issues for the last couple of weeks, but those have been taken care for the nonce. You will be able to catch today's show on the MySpace page.

And now on to the show:
As it is Yule season, we have been playing a selection of holiday music, both vocal and instrumental. We are ALWAYS open to requests, so if there is a new age or Pagan holiday song you would like to hear, please drop me a comment or send me an email and I will do my best to get it on the air for you.

Once again we had a nice selection of newer releases to play from today, as well as many of our old favorites.

In the meantime, do not forget to visit our MySpace page to catch some previous shows in video format. Who knows, one day we may get the chance to piece together some stills of Murf and her minions, as well as photos of some of the artists that we frequently play and put them all together into a video for you! Oi, I can hear Murf cursing me for that idea already....

Tune in next week and we will be entertaining you with even more seasonal songs. Among other offerings, we have Leigh Anne Hussey's Homebrewed Carols and Loreena McKennitt's holiday albums. Hope to catch you all next Sunday!

Murf and her minions get a little bit crazy

Wowsa! Today Murf and her minions got a little bit crazy. Well, crazier than usual. So much of what we said off air would have gotten us in to some MAJOR trouble. So thank the Gods we know how to mute the mics.

We experienced a few technical difficulties during the early part of the show. Seems something was disabled, malfunctioning or total kaputz in the sound studio and Damon was unable to record the show this morning. The cable for me to hook up to my laptop was also missing, so I was not able to record it in his stead. So, this show will not be available on the MySpace page for the show. Check out the page anyway and become a fan of the show on there.

Murphy's Birthday Show

Hello, everyone! And thank you for listening to Murf's birthday show. We were so excited this morning. We had everything set up to record the show. But guess what. Silly me, I forgot to disable the external microphone on the laptop and we not only recorded the show, but we recorded EVERYTHING that went on off air. Banter, kavitching about politics, plotting future shows and phone calls. So, the recording is not good. Another no go, but at least we know how to do it now. LOL Yay for technology. It is the Mess, so it takes a while to get everything all figured out whenever KZUM decides to change the devices around on us.

It was a great show, though. Lots of Murf's favorites. Phil Coulter to SJ Tucker, Lisa Hilton to local artist Gary Redden. And there will be more of her favorites to come. Just be patient...

...The show on September 6th is not going to be our regular programming. Back by popular demand, KZUM is doing their Blues Blowout! From 6am Saturday the 5th through 11:59pm Monday the 7th KZUM is playing nothing but Blues music. All other programming has been preempted during that time. Damon and Ed will be running the boards on the 6th, providing our die hard listeners, and our Blues fans, with New Age and Pagan friendly Blues....or at least as close as they can get and still be Blues. Be ready for instrumentals by Lisa Hilton of her Twilight and Blues, and lyrical and instrumental Blues by Pagan artists such as Leigh Anne Hussey and Kenny Klein. They will also be playing more mainstream Blues with a New Agey flare.

We are moving into the month of September. Can you believe it? Fall is almost upon us. Of course with the wonderful weather we have been having the last few days, it is believeable. And with Fall just around the corner that means that Mabon is very close as well.

On the 13th we are planing to play a lot more of Murf's favorites, as two hours is far from enough time to cover it all. We will also be playing some of my own favorites, my birthday is the 14th.

Murf wanted to thank Corwin, Christine A, Cathy, Ed B and all the rest for their birthday wishes.

TODAY'S PLAYLIST:
1.Wytches Chant 98, Inkubus Sukkubus, Away with the Fairies
2.Centering, Louis Landon, Solo Piano for Peace
3.Autumn Winds, Gary Redden, Starry Afternoon

26.Glastonbury Song, Waterboys, Dream Harder
27.Twilight Calling, Gaia Consort, (unknown)
28.House of Mama Dragon, SJ Tucker, (unknown)

As you heard and can tell by the playlist, we had a lot more music than usual. Without the other two Hyenas, it is easier to play music, but we did miss the banter and fun of having them there.

Murf and I wish Damon and Ed much luck with the Blues version of the Mess. Murf is taking the day off to relax and I am going to be in the great out of doors helping my mother with her Moving/Retirement sale all weekend. (If interested in taking a look at what she is offering, contact me in email and I will give you the location of the sale.) Murf and I will be back with the Mess on the 13th with lots more of your favorites (and ours).

Once in Time, Murphy's Magic Mess 08/09/09

Well, folks, it would seem that not only was not present the show, but my brain took a vacation and I didn't get around to doing anything with the play list until today. Almost entire week AFTER the show aired. And, it would look as if Damon's having some technical difficulties of his own getting the show recorded so he can post it to the show's MySpace page. Terribly disappointing. I shall see what I can do to assist him with that for tomorrow's show.

So, here is the play list. Remember, Murf's theme song for the show is Wytches Chant 98 by Inkubus Sukkubus. It is not listed here as this is the play list as it was sent to me by Damon:

If you are one of our MANY online listeners, go to KZUM and click on the streaming audio. But you know that already. :D The show is EVERY Sunday at 9am CST.

Pagan-Musings: Techno Pagan

Techno Pagan on Pagan-Musings

The August 8th episode of Pagan-Musings on Blog Talk Radio was about Techno Pagans and what they do. We had a blast looking back to the early days of the internet and had a visit with besom, a friend who shared many (unfortunately broken) links from her days with AOL's Pagan chat rooms. With some wonderful chat room contributions and a chat visit from our Tradition's founding High Priestess, it was a very fun show and we are looking forward to many more!

Web Sites Discussed During the Show: (This is to the best of our ability and accurate list of links, even if it is not a complete list from show.)
ISCABBS - the Iowa Student Computer Association Bulletin Board System. telnet://whip.isca.uiowa.edu

Pagan Alliance Network - the online home of the Pagan Alliance Network, founded by RevKess and KaliSara in 1997.

PaganSpace.net - a wonderful social networking site owned by Starrfire Price of Labyrinth House Publishing.

PaganSpace.com - a site that neither of us have checked out much, but it is an option for social networking.

Pangaia Metaphysical Store - an online business owned by KaliSara and RevKess, specializing in unique and one of a kind creations by artists around the world.

U.S. Grand Lodge, Ordo Templi Orientis - the online home of the OTO.

Sunday, July 19, 2009

My most sincere apologies for being so behind on posting this blog. I have recently started back to work and I am adjusting to this new schedule. My time online has been significantly influenced by the hours that I am working. But enough with the excuses.

It would seem that I put my foot in this week with the show. Murf and Damon have elected for me to put together the music for the first half of the show AND to run the boards for at least half an hour. Well on my way to becoming a certified programmer with KZUM. Woot!

So I have been busy with planning what to play during the show. I am seriously thinking that I should just go ahead and put together enough music for the whole show and see what happens. Who knows, Murf may decide to let me sit behind the boards for the bulk of that morning. /crosses fingers and hopes/ Not sure which way I should be hoping there. LOL

Between the music selections and the other things that we would like to be doing for the program, I think I have my work cut out for me for the 26th. I make no promises, but I plan to have our tidbits and quotes going again as well as some world holidays and a brief calendar of events. We are approaching on August and Lammas, so there is bound to be some interesting things going on in the world of Paganism and Witchcraft.

WHAT'S NEW WITH THE MESS:

  • Glass Wolfe sent us a wonderful CD, you heard some of it on the show from the 19th

  • Murphy's Magic Mess is now available online. For two weeks at a time, you can listen to each program of the Mess on MySpace. You do not have to be a member to listen to the show. Visit www.myspace.com/Murphysmagickmess and click on the video feeds. (Damon was a little over zealous when he made the page and accidentally put a “k” into the mess.) As the Mess is a music show you will not be able to download the program like you would a podcast. FCC regulations and all that jazz.

  • Murf is moving her website. For the last several years Murf has had a website detailing the playlists and special guests from the Mess. Yahoo is shutting down GeoCities free websites, so Murf has to move. We do not yet know where she is moving the website. Could be an extension of the MySpace page or could be something entirely different. Stay tuned for further updates.

UPCOMING EVENTS:

  • KZUM Grill-a-thon at Russ's Market on 17th and Washington, Friday the 24th and Saturday the 25th from 11am-6pm. Come join programmers and staff from KZUM as they cook up some good old fashion burgers, hotdogs, and bratwurst and help support KZUM. This is a fund raising event for KZUM.

  • The Pagan Alliance Network is hosting it's monthly Meditation and Divination Night on Saturday the 25th at 7pm. Phil is playing host for this event. Please contact him for directions. The Meditation and Divination Night is an opportunity for people to meet, experience a guided meditation and practice with their divining skills.

  • Pagan-Musings podcast is covering the Pagan Alliance Network and its history on Saturday the 25th at 10pm CST. You can listen live at www.blogtalkradio.com/Pagan-Musings, or download the show at a later date. Join RevKess and KaliSara, the founders of PAN, as they discuss the history of PAN, current projects, and future plans.

Murphy's Magic Mess on MySpace

And here we are! Murphy's Magic Mess is now available on MySpace.com.

Remember, this is a public profile, so you do not have to be a member of MySpace to access the show online. It is a "video", which means you cannot download the program like you would a podcast, but you can listen to it. Each show that is posted will be available for two weeks.

Now you can listen to Murf, Damon/Sir Fluff, and Phil/Rev. Moonbeam anytime you want!
