Musica Pagani: Full Moon March 2012

Listen to internet radio with Pagan Musings Podcast Channel on Blog Talk Radio

Greetings and thank you for listening to a brand new edition of Musica Pagani. I do apologize for MP disappearing for so long. It wasn't for want of doing it, it was more a lack of time.  But I have made time to do the show again. It's only once a week, usually a recorded program. So at the very least I can plot and plan the show in advance and then put it together in a short period of time for listening pleasure.

The March full moon found us experience a solar storm for the Sun's eruption on Tuesday the 6th. This caused some beautiful auroras to be seen in the Northern Hemisphere. It also arrived just prior to Mercury going retrograde on Monday the 12th. Combine a Merc Retch with a solar storm and all hell breaks loose with technology, communication and understanding of ourselves and others. But we can make it through such storms.

The following music list was put together with that in mind. At just over an hour, this edition of Musica Pagani should help you relax any time of the day or night and any time of the year. A smattering of lyrical pieces by a few artists, both old and new, mixed between two lovely sets of New Age instrumental pieces should be a nice balance. There a little Pagan folk, a little Pagan rock and lots of Pagan fun to be had with these selections.

The Play List

  1. Child of Light - Peter Sterling - Patterns of Reflection
  2. Lucid Dream - Joe Bongiorno - Into the Wind
  3. Desert Moon - Douglas Bluefeather & Danny voris - Rollin' Like Thunder
  4. Quarter Call - Isaac Bonewits - Avalon is Rising
  5. Goddess Chant - Kenny Klein - Oak, Ash and Thorn
  6. God Chant - Kenny Klein - Oak, Ash and Thorn
  7. Lady of the Silver Wheel - Damh the Bard - The Hills They Are Hollow
  8. Siren Moon - Sharon Knight - Song of the Sea
  9. Under a Violet Moon - Blackmore's Night - Under a Violet Moon
  10. She Danced Alone on the Wave - Wendy Rule - The Wolf Song
  11. Mother Night - Nuit - Mother Night
  12. Journey Within - Michael Brant DeMaria - Bindu
  13. Wisdom - Paradiso & Rasamayi - 3rd Eye Rising
  14. Your Dream - Tron Syversen - Peaceful Journey: Music for Relaxation
  15. Pearl - Lia Scallon - Crystal Keys: Songs to Awaken & Heal
I do sincerely hope that enjoyed this mix of old and new, New Age and Pagan.

Pagan Weekly News #30 - Monday, 20 February 2012

Listen to internet radio with Pagan Musings Podcast Channel on Blog Talk Radio

The weekend of February 18th was this year's PantheaCon in California. One of the world's largest indoor Pagan festivals. This week we talked about one of the key issues that arose during the event. Namely, Z. Budapest's CisWomen only ritual for honoring the Sacred Body. At last year's PantheaCon she conducted a similar ritual and excluded transgender women from the Circle. Unfortunately, last year she did not make it clear in the ritual's program description that transgender women would be excluded. This year she made it clear in the program.

Zaracon, KaliSara and RevKess all chimed in with a number of thoughts and comments on the topic as well as referencing various blogs and articles that covered the event. The following is a list of those blogs and articles, at least as far as RevKess has been able to find them:
After last year's PantheaCon incident, as it became known on PMPC, the hosts of the parent program did a two part series on Transgender Pagan Issues. You can find those shows and others listed below:
The topic of African Witch Children and African Pentacostal pastor Helen Ukpabio was brought up towards the bottom of the second hour, but Zaracon had to bow out of the show due to some emotional responses he was holding back about that issue and the PantheaCon incident. Thought we did not cover the topic we wanted to share some of the links we had prepared in case anyone else wishes to pursue the topic on their own.
On much lighter note, we wished the authors M.R. Sellars and Diana L. Paxson a very happy birthday! Sellars is the author of the Rowan Gant Investigations and Diana has written, among other things, Taking Up the Runes and parts of the Mists of Avalon series with the late Marion Zimmer Bradley.

Our music play list for the show:
  1. Heartbeat - Warrior Within
  2. Wendy Rule - Shine - Deity
  3. Leigh Anne Hussey - I Used to be a Powerful Priestess - Homebrew
  4. Bone Poets Orchestra - Pleasure of the Sky - Belladonna Smiles
Pagan Weekly News is a proud part of the Pagan-Musings Podcast Channel, airing live every Monday at 7pm. Hosted by Zaracon and RevKess with KaliSara filling in or joining in from time to time. The hosts bring news, views, interviews, and opinions from the Pagan Community and cover news from mainstream and Pagan media sources. The Pagan-Musings Podcast series can be found via BTR and on iTunes. Remember to like Pagan Weekly News and Pagan-Musings Podcast on Facebook. Pagan-Musings: Parental Deities 5/28/11

Greetings and welcome my friends! I have obviously fallen way behind on my posts. I am still working on reconstructing everything that is missing for the last two or three months, but in the meantime, I am going to do my best to get the current stuff posted. So, here we go:

This Saturday's edition of Pagan-Musings discussed parental deities and patron deities. KaliSara and I (RevKess) discussed in brief several maternal deities or Mother Goddesses and moved on to the difficulties of finding Father Gods or paternal deities that are not the Christian God, Yahweh, El, Allah, etc.

The bulk of our discussionLink focused on patron deities, however. We spent a good portion of the show discussing our own personal deities and why we chose them or why we think they chose us.

Obviously, KaliSara's patron God is Kali from Hindu mythology and you can find out a bit more on her choices and beliefs by reading her own blog. She has not made a post since October, but that is understandable. She is a mother of two, both under the age of five, and is a very busy woman with a full time job and the web-mistress duties and paperwork involved with our online business, Pangaia Metaphysical Store.

Speaking for myself, however, I can go into a bit more detail here about my own patrons. On a personal level, I have two patron Gods and two patron Goddesses. They are Asclepius and Thoth and Sekhmet and Ma'at. Yes, I know that Asclepius comes from the Greek while the other three come from the Egyptian.

I more or less chose Asclepius as one of my patrons. He is the Greek God of physicians and healers. I am not a doctor, nor am I a traditional healer. But when he came into my life, I needed a lot of emotional healing. I had been through a VERY tough period in my life. Adding to the loss of my father at a very young age, I had also dealt with many difficult situations in my early childhood and teen years which required indepth reflection and a few visits to a therapist. In Asclepius, I found something that I was not getting from counseling, I found someone who truly listened to what I had to say and really cared about my feelings and emotions. He has inspired me to study psychology, aromatherpay and herbology. That part of my journey is very much an on-going task, as is dealing with some of the emotional and psychological scarring from my youth.

Thoth, on the other hand, chose me. I was attending a guided meditation group one evening and we were asked to visit with our patron Gods in the meditation. We were told that the Gods that appeared to us may not be who we expect and that they have a very important message for us. Well, I was not expecting Thoth. I was expecting Asclepius or some other Greek God. Even though I had (and still do) a deep affinity for all things Egyptian, I was not expecting a visit from one of the male deities of Egypt. At best, I was expecting Bast or some other Mothering deity.

Thoth, the Egyptian God of scribes, appeared to me as a full bodied ibis, the bird who's head he wears. This ibis was drawing heiroglyphs in the sand when he first appeared. But as I sat and watched, patiently waiting to see and hear what message this bird would have for me, it approached me and began to draw the symbols on my body. A most amazing experience.

That encounter later led to a past life memory which I have briefly discussed in other episodes of Pagan-Musings. But in short, I had a flash of my own death at a time in the history of Ancient Egypt. From what I can recall, I was a priest of Aten (has formerly been a priest of Ra) who was hiding his true beliefs from his patron and ruler, Akenaten. When Akenaten was deposed, all his advisers and priests were sentenced to death. As I had sided with him, for political reasons and to save my own skin, I was one of those sentenced. *cringe* Death by drowning in sand is horrid. Enough on that, though.

On to the Goddesses in my life, or at least two of them.

Sekhmet invaded my life one night, again during a meditation. I say invaded because sometimes she chooses to do things the abrupt and violent manner. I had always been attracted the cat deities of Africa, in particular to Bast. As a cat lover, that make some sense. But Sekhmet had other plans for me. Bast is generally a soft, gentle and playful Goddess; while Sekhmet still embraces those traits, she is also a fierce defender and can be very aggressive when it is for the betterment of her children.

Like on of my cats, Sekhmet moved herself into my life and made herself at home. I had very little choice in the matter, but have since grown to embrace her as a patron and to fully embrace some of her characteristics. I have become very protective of both my cats and of the children in my life. I am not a parent myself, but I have been involved in the raising of several children and am an uncle at least two dozen times over (I lost count). Along with the actual children in my life, I am looked upon by many as a teacher and (dare i say it) spiritual leader. Thus, it has fallen to me to step in as Dad a few times and set someone's feet back on the correct path for them. Never an easy task and not one that I take lightly.

Which brings me to the patron Goddess I did choose. Ma'at.

Ma'at is the goddess of balance and stability in Egypt. Ever heard the cliche "everything has it's place"? That could very easily be attributed to Ma'at. Seeking to find the balance in life, I turned to Ma'at at an early age. I was lucky enough to be introduced to Egyptian mythology and later religion when I was in 3rd grade (attending a church school no less). Ma'at was one of the Goddesses of Egypt to that reached out to me, or I to her. Not really sure at this stage of the game. She enabled me to make a little bit more sense of things and to continue on as an almost "normal" person. I put that in quotes, because no one is truly "normal" by societies definition, especially not someone who is self-aware.

As a teacher and spiritual leader in my community, I find that turning to this Goddess can help me find a better way of addressing issues, talking to individuals and explaining situations to the general public. She places a single feather on a scale to balance against the heart of the deceased. I do hope that when my time comes at the end of this life that my heart and her feather are balanced.

-=- )O( -=-

We also played a lot of music during the show. Well, a lot for us anyway.

Play List:
  1. Imakhu Sekehmet - Sacred Mother - Water Woma: Organic Flow
  2. Emerald Rose - Freya, Shakti - Bending Tradition
  3. Dragon Ritual Drummers - Tuatha de Danann - Passage
  4. Spiral Dance - Raven's Lore - Magick
  5. Paradiso & Rasamayi - Transformation - 3rd Eye Rising
  6. Dragon Ritual Drummers - Afri Afrique - Passage
Until next time, my friends! Peace and Blessings!

P-M: Runes in Every Day Life

First off, I would like to thank our marvelous guest, Kaedrich Olsen, for joining us once again on Pagan-Musings Podcast. It is always a pleasure to speak with Kaedrich on any topic, but especially on his favorite subject, the runes. This weeks episode of Pagan-Musings was no exception to that.

We spent the whole show talking about runes and how they are used every day. Kaedrich shared some of the history of the runes and their meanings with us throughout the show. He even answered some rune divination questions over the air and through the BTR chat room.

Needless to say, a two hour show is just enough time to cover everything that we tried to squeeze in. We are inviting Kaedrich back sometime this summer for a two hour show on the rune meanings. He says he can fit all 24 runes into a two hour class, so we shall see if he can manage it with a two hour show. If not, then there is always a part two.

A Few Links We Would Like To Share:
We only played a couple of pieces of music during the show, as it was so packed with information. They were:
  1. Emerald Rose - Fire in the Head - Songs for the Night Sky
  2. Michael Brant DeMaria - Danu - Gaia

Prayer for Peace

This week on the Mess we helped celebrate with the rest of the Pagan community our uniqueness and diversity throughout the world. February 27th was the Prayer for Peace Vigil in many cities across the nation and around the globe. This vigil was a peaceful demonstration in response to the Catholic Truth Society's little pamphlet called Wicca and Witchcraft: Understanding the Dangers. Other than the direct shots across the bow with Maria's Not a Catholic Anymore and Go Away Godboy, we feel that our music choices for the show were peaceful and understanding towards the Catholic community and we hope that no individual Catholic was personally offended by any of the music.

Please refer to last week's blog on the Mess for more information and listen to Selections from the Mess #3 on the Pagan-Musings Podcast Channel for an indepth discussion of the issue.

Our thanks and support go out to all who participated, in anyway, in the vigils. We greatly appreciate your sincerity of heart and spirit on this issue and wish you all the best!

Lady Cynthia vists the Mess

Lady Cynthia from the Order of the Red Grail, Church for Transformational Wicca joined us this week to talk about Elizabeth Dodd's pamphlet Wicca and Witchcraft: Understanding the Dangers put out by the Catholic Truth Society.

On Sunday, February 27th there will be a Prayer for Peace Vigil on the north steps of the Lincoln Capitol Building from 10am to noon. This is in conjunction with several similar prayer vigils nation wide and around the globe. The issue that many Pagans, especially Witches and Wiccans, take with this new pamphlet is that it specifically targets Wicca and Witchcraft for conversion. The 27th is also the anniversary of Pope John XXII's papal bull "the theory of witchcraft" which was at the root of the Inquisition.

Our play list:
  1. Inkubus Sukkubus - Wytches’ Chant ‘98 - Away with the Faeries
  2. Kathryn Kaye - Waiting for the Rain - Dreaming Still
  3. Paradiso & Rasamayi - Flow - 3rd Eye Rising
  4. Greg Maroney - Valerie’s Song - the Journey
  5. Steven C - Opus Derrian - Heart Strings
  6. Michael Brant DeMaria - Danu - Gaia
  7. Bruce Mitchell - Persephone - New Earth Goddess
  8. Dagda - Wind of Change - Hibernia
  9. Al Conti - Spring Maiden - Northern Seas
  10. Kathy Mar - The Word of God - My Favorite Sings
  11. Isaac Bonewits - Be Pagan Once Again - Be Pagan Once Again
  12. Kelly Andrew Kaveny - Apollo - Olympus
  13. Gaia Consort - Cry Freedom - Secret Voices
  14. John Mitchell - Religion and Beer - First 49 Years
If you missed the show and would like to hear the conversation with Lady Cynthia, please listen to Selections from the Mess episode 3 on the Pagan-Musings Podcast Channel at BTR.

PMPC Spring Cleaning & Pagan Charities

Hello to one and all! It has been a rather eventful week or so for Pagan-Musings Podcast Channel. We have been adding a variety of music programs through Musica Pagani and Selections from the Mess. You can check them out on our BTR page.

Today we did an episode of Pagan-Musings talking about Spring Cleaning and Pagan Charities.

It may seem a little early to talk about spring cleaning, but in my opinion it is never to early to plan what to do with your Schtuff. As we are coming out of the cold and dark of the year in the Northern Hemisphere, naturally our thoughts turn towards the warm and light time of the year. We look around our homes and see what we have not done, not out of laziness but out of comfort. We see stacks of papers that have accumulated, bills and receipts, unanswered letters and holiday cards, etc. We also notice that as the weather begins to warm up we want to think about doing those things we have put off. For me that is cleaning the apartment. Don't think that I am a terrible house keeper with piles of dirty laundry and dishes that could walk themselves to the sink. This may seem to happen sometimes, though....

What I am talking about is getting rid of the clutter that has gathered over the last few months. I am a pack rat, I freely admit it. I have stacks of books, newspapers, junk mail and other schtuff cluttering my desk and office space. As I look around at it all I cringe to think of how much schtuff I have left undone during the winter. I want to get organized. And one of the best ways to do that is to start somewhere and clean.

Along with cleaning comes Cleansing. On Pagan-Musings we have talked about this before. As you clean out the clutter you also Cleanse the space. You can use special cleaners that are enchanted or spelled to help you rid the home of negativity. You can also, after finishing a room or project burn some sage, sweetgrass or other herbal incense to Cleanse the space and purify the air. Either way you look at it, you are making your home a better, healthier place to be.

Charity also comes to mind during this time of year for me. I am passionate about certain worthy causes and only wish that I had more time and money to donate to these causes. Weekly I spend at least two hours volunteering at KZUM, our local community radio station, working on Murphy's Magic Mess. At the Mess we bring our listeners a variety of New Age and Pagan music every Sunday from 9-11am. Oddly enough, the show is on right after the gospel program. I have recently (as readers of this blog and listeners to PMPC know) added Lavender Hill - a segment on the Wimmin's Show - to my KZUM hours and been asked to stay after to help the host of the Wimmin's Show produce her program. Between recording the Mess, doing the Hill and working behind the scenes with the Wimmin's Show I donate at least five hours a week to KZUM and the local community.

I also spend a good deal of time working towards reaching the goals of the Pagan Alliance Network, helping to build and create Pagan community. Not just on the local level, but world wide. I am focused on helping to get the networking mindset out to the global Pagan community. This spring I will be spending more time on that project, as well as other community projects, to help create a better awareness of the Pagan community in the larger global community. Websites, social networking, blog writing and essay/article projects will assist in that. Working directly with other local and national Pagan groups will help with that.

My cohost on Pagan-Musings Podcast also has plans for charitable work in the future. Namely, her and her partner have been seriously talking about becoming foster parents. A very worthy cause and one that I support them him. I love children and have pondered adoption or fostering myself. More power to them, as the saying goes.

And now, on to the play list for today's show.
(format: Artist - Song Title - CD/Album Title)
  1. The Gypsy Ribbon - A Perfect Blend - A Taste of the Ribbon
  2. Michael Brant DeMaria - Danu - Gaia
  3. Ann Licater - Sacred Passages - Doorway to a Dream
  4. Emerald Rose - Freya, Shakti - Bending Tradition
  5. Kenny Klein - Keep Your Legs Together, Jenny - Gold of the Autumn
  6. Paradiso & Rasamayi - Flow - 3rd Eye Rising
KaliSara and I hope that enjoyed listening to our rants during the show and that you learned something from it. We started off talking about Elizabeth Dodd's pamphlet Wicca and Witchcraft: Understanding the Dangers and talking about the GOP House Reps and their budget proposals. Then we stepped off our soap boxes and actually got to the planned topic. :) Check out Lady Libety League for a listing of some of the Pagan Charities out there.

Catch us next Saturday as we talk about Animal Guides on Pagan-Musings Podcast. In the mean time, enjoy the upcoming selections for Musica Pagani and Selections from the Mess on the Pagan-Musings Podcast Channel.

A New Endeavour

The Debut of Lavender Hill
part of the Wimmin's Show on KZUM

I have wanted to do an LBGTQ news and talk radio program for sometime now. All these past two years at KZUM, in fact. I've always wanted to do a Pagan news and talk program at KZUM, but that is another story.

In all the years that I have been listening to KZUM, I do not recall a program specifically geared towards the LBGTQ community. Sure, they have the Wimmin's Show Sundays at 11am Central (used to be at 11:30, right after W.I.N.G.S.) and other similar shows - directed at women and lesbians. But that doesn't quite fit the bill.

Back in September, Corwin (one of Murf's minions) and I both suggested such a show to the program director. Oddly enough, we did this independent of each other. I brought it up again after the annual programmer's appreciation party in January. The program director is supportive of the idea, but doesn't know where to put us for sure. Corwin and I also discussed it with Deb from the Wimmin's show after it was announced that we would no longer be carrying W.I,N.G.S. She loved the idea.

Well, we are doing it a little bit differently than we had originally planned. Instead of being our own independent show, starting this Sunday (February 20, 2011), Lavender Hill will debut as a segment of the Wimmin's Show. As Deb put it, we will be the Min of the Wimmin's Show. She has also asked me to stay through her entire show as technical adviser and producer.

Let's see, that gives me how many shows (between KZUM and the internet)? Hmmm....
  • Pagan-Musings Podcast on the Pagan-Musings Podcast Channel every Saturday at 2pm Central
  • Murphy's Magic Mess on KZUM every Sunday at 9am Central
  • Lavender Hill (segment) on KZUM every Sunday at 11am Central
  • The Wimmin's Show (producer and technical adviser) on KZUM every Sunday at 11:30am Central
  • Selections from the Mess on the Pagan-Musings Podcast Channel every Monday at 7pm Central
  • Musica Pagani Special Edition on the Pagan-Musings Podcast Channel every Thursday at 7pm Central
  • Musica Pagani on the Pagan-Musings Podcast Channel every Friday at 10pm Central
That's SEVEN programs. And we are planning to podcast Lavender Hill as well. Which means that our listeners can catch the program either live on Sundays or listen/download it any time they want after it is posted. Still deciding how we want to set that up. Probably be a separate listing on BlogTalkRadio.com. Corwin and I will decide that Thursday at our planning session.

Well, that's is all for now. I need to get some rest and be ready for more plotting and planning of these shows and other adventures coming up this year.

-Phil, the ever busy

Selections from the Mess ep. 1

Well, folks. At Pagan-Musings Podcast Channel we have been doing some changes. We are keeping the Pagan-Musings Podcast as it is, a talk show with some music, news, interviews, and random babbling from RevKess and KaliSara. But we are adding several new programs to our list.

Selections from the Mess is just such a program. It is a weekly special series from Musica Pagani, hosted and produced by RevKess, featuring the pod-friendly music from that week's episode of Murphy's Magic Mess on KZUM-HD 89.3FM in Lincoln, NE. The original, full length show airs and streams live on Sundays at 9am Central, bringing the listener two full hours of New Age and Pagan music enjoyment. Whenever possible, RevKess will be taking cuts straight from in studio recording of that week's show. This first episode unfortunately had to be pieced together from his own music archives as the gain was set wrong on the recording equipment and there was major sound distortion.

The Play List:
  1. Katherine Kaye - Waiting for the Rain - Dreaming Still
  2. Matthew Shoening - Water - Elements
  3. Paradiso & Rasamayi - Wisdom - 3rd Eye Rising
  4. Heidi Anne Breyer - Off Season - Another Place and Time...
  5. Lis Addison - New Nation - Grace of the Green Leaf
  6. T. Thorn Coyle - Lugh's song - Face of a New Day
  7. Emerald Rose - Three More Drops - Archives of Ages to Come
  8. S.J. Tucker - Firebird's Child - Blessings
  9. S.J. tucker - In the House of Mama Dragon - Haphazard
Pagan-Musings Podcast Channel hopes that you enjoy this little one hour music offering and that you will tune in to other programs available in archives or catch a live show soon!
